Writing

There's a common belief that writing can't be taught. We disagree.

Once a student reaches the foundational level required by their stage of schooling, targeted writing support becomes one of the most powerful investments in their development — and not just academically. A student who learns to write well learns to think clearly, communicate precisely, and reflect honestly. These are not just academic skills. They are life skills.

Good writers are good communicators. And beyond that, the process of writing — organising thought, finding the right words, expressing what you actually mean — builds a reflective and introspective capacity that serves a student far beyond the classroom.

At Cornerstone, we believe writing can be taught, developed, and genuinely enjoyed. And for the students who get there, it becomes one of the greatest academic gifts we can give them.

Writing

What is actually taught?

Beyond the text structures required for all primary school assessments — including NAPLAN, OC, and selective — we develop reflective thinking, ideation, and the basics of emotional intelligence and mindfulness. A student who can write well can think clearly, communicate honestly, and understand themselves.

Who is this program for?

Our writing program is most commonly offered to students already enrolled in our Maths and English program — but it is equally available to students who don't require broader academic support. If writing is the gap, we treat it as exactly that.
